The Full Process of Working with an Interior Designer in Newcastle

What It’s Like to Work with an Interior Designer in Newcastle

Thinking about hiring an interior designer — but not sure what to expect?

We get it. The design world can feel full of mystery. Maybe you’ve never worked with a designer before. Maybe you’ve seen one too many home makeover shows with drama and spiralling budgets.

At Q Interiors, our approach is calm, collaborative, and rooted in practicality. Whether you’re redesigning one room or an entire home in Newcastle, we’re here to guide you from vision to reality — with no stress, no ego, and no costly surprises.

Here’s what our interior design process typically looks like when working with homeowners in the Newcastle area.

1. Discovery Call or In-Home Consultation

We always start with a relaxed, no pressure conversation. This might be a Zoom call or an in home visit depending on what stage you’re at.

We’ll ask:

  • What’s working (and what’s not) in your current space?

  • How do you use your home day to day?

  • What’s your dream result — and your realistic budget?

  • Are you drawn to any particular colours, styles, or design ideas?

We’ll also give you a clear idea of how we work, what to expect, and how we can tailor the service to suit your needs and timeline.

📍If you live in Newcastle, we often suggest an in person consultation — we’ll walk through your home with you and start to get a real feel for the space.

2. Concept & Moodboarding

Once you’re ready to move forward, we begin developing the design concept. This stage includes:

  • A digital moodboard tailored to your taste and home style

  • Suggested colour palette, textures, and finishes

  • Inspiration images that reflect the vibe we’re aiming for

This step is collaborative — you’ll give feedback, and we’ll tweak until it feels just right.

Many of our Newcastle clients find this stage exciting — it’s the moment ideas start coming to life.

3. Detailed Design & Sourcing

Once the concept is signed off, we get practical. This phase might include:

  • Furniture layouts

  • Paint colours, wallpaper, and flooring selections

  • Joinery plans (e.g. built-in storage or wardrobes)

  • Window treatment ideas

  • Full product sourcing — from sofas and lighting to mirrors, rugs, and accessories

We use our trusted network of suppliers (many of them local to the North East)

You can be as involved as you like — some clients prefer full visibility and others hand it all over. Either way, we keep you updated and in control.

4. Installation & Styling

When everything’s ready, we coordinate deliveries, installations, and final styling. Whether it’s one room or a full house, we handle the details.

We’ll often bring in our team of trusted decorators, electricians, curtain fitters, and joiners — all of whom we know and use regularly across Newcastle projects.

This is the part where everything comes together — and you start to feel like you’ve walked into a home from a magazine (only it’s 100% yours).

5. Aftercare & Finishing Touches

We don’t just disappear once the last cushion is fluffed. After installation, we check in with you:

  • Do you love it?

  • Is anything not quite right?

  • Do you need help with any extra finishing touches?

We can also create a follow up moodboard for any additional rooms you want to work on later. Many of our Newcastle clients start with one space — and return for the next when they’re ready.

Transparent, Tailored, and Totally Personal

We believe great design should feel personal — not prescriptive. When you work with Q Interiors, you get:

  • A dedicated designer who knows your home inside and out

  • A clear, flexible process

  • Honest advice with your goals in mind

  • A beautiful result that feels like you

Stylish, magnificent, inspirational...

I have recently renovated a bungalow and used Q interiors for the interior design.  I have been so pleased with the advice and support and the end result is fantastic.  I am recently widowed and Karen supported me throughout the project with advice and ideas, she went over and above her remit and I am so grateful. I love my finished home – it is so tasteful, modern and fresh.  Karen’s attention to detail is amazing and the quality of the soft furnishings is fabulous.  I would definitely recommend the company, the service has been faultless.
