So you’ve booked your first interior design consultation — exciting! Whether you’re looking to redesign a single room or refresh your entire home, the initial meeting sets the stage for everything to follow.
But if you’ve never worked with a designer before, you might be wondering… What happens during the consultation? What do I need to bring? Should I know my exact style?
At Q Interiors, we work with homeowners across Newcastle many of whom are starting this process for the first time. Here’s what you can expect, and how to make the most of your interior design consultation in Newcastle.
This first meeting is all about discovery. It’s not about committing to a sofa or choosing a wallpaper on the spot — it’s about:
Understanding your goals for the space
Discussing how you live (or want to live) in your home
Exploring your personal style and preferences
Talking through timelines, budget, and next steps
For us, it’s a chance to get to know you. For you, it’s a chance to ask questions, share your vision, and get a feel for how we work.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a full Pinterest board ready, but a few visual cues can really help spark the conversation.
📌 Helpful things to bring or send ahead:
Pinterest pins, Instagram saves, or magazine cuttings
Photos of rooms or homes you love
A list of what’s not working in your current space
Favourite colours, textures, or moods
Even if your inspiration is a bit all over the place (that’s normal!), we can help distil it into a clear, cohesive vision.
You don’t need to know exactly what every item will cost, but it’s helpful to know your comfort zone. Are you looking for high street upgrades? Trade only, investment pieces? Or something in between?
Knowing your budget allows us to guide the design in a direction that feels exciting and realistic.
💬 We’ll always be transparent about where to save and where to invest.
If your consultation is via Zoom or phone, we’ll usually ask you to:
Send photos of your space from different angles
Note down rough measurements of the room(s)
Share any floor plans if available
This gives us a better feel for proportions, light, and layout and helps us make tailored suggestions, even before stepping inside.
📍 If you’re in Newcastle, we’re always happy to visit in person where possible!
You don’t have to know your exact style but it is helpful to know how you want to feel in your home.
Do you want a calm retreat? A fun space for entertaining? A practical home for busy family life?
We also encourage clients to tell us if they’ve had a bad experience before, or if they’re nervous about the process. Our goal is to make this easy, enjoyable, and collaborative — not intimidating.
At Q Interiors, your consultation is just the beginning. After we meet, you’ll receive a follow up that may include:
A proposed design package
Estimated costs and timelines
A clear process for moving forward
There’s never any pressure — just the information you need to decide whether we’re the right fit for your project.
Your consultation is your chance to ask questions, get ideas, and feel inspired. Whether you’re starting with one room or tackling a full renovation, we’re here to help you bring clarity, confidence, and creativity to your project.
