Creating
A Traditional Tearoom Experience

Our project in collaboration with Valerie’s Tearoom in Whitley Bay required us to create a sophisticated and traditional tearoom experience for visitors.

It was vital that we created an interior design that reflected the age and style of the Spanish City building, as the team at Valerie’s wanted to take customers back in time and bring back the glory days of popular British seaside resorts by blending both modern and retro features.

We considered the architecture of the building during the planning phase, to ensure the culture of the area was incorporated into our final interior design plan.

INSPIRATION FROM THE PAST

In order to meet the brief and create a traditional tearoom experience for Valerie’s customers, we took inspiration from early 1900s design features, using clean lines and simplicity, along with accents of bold colour and innovative light fixtures.

We used retro 1950s wall lights to create warmth and created plenty of space between each table so customers felt relaxed rather than crowded during their time at Valerie’s. We added bold statement features such as an art deco mirror to open up the space and create interest.

To create a classical feel we incorporated whimsical botanical wallpaper into the wall arches and sharply contrasted this with a bold coral pink for a luxurious modern twist.

This new design allowed us to create a new experience within Valerie’s Tearoom with the juxtaposition of retro and modern features and a brand-new charming atmosphere.
