Ever wonder what really happens when you hire an interior designer?
It’s easy to admire finished rooms in magazines or on Instagram but they rarely show the full journey. The awkward angles. The decision dilemmas. The clever workarounds. The moments of magic.
In this post, we’re sharing a real room makeover story, step by step. No fluff—just the real process and how we turned a brand new space in a new build into a warm, welcoming sanctuary.
The room: a large bedroom in a modern new build in Newcastle.
The client wanted a bedroom that felt elegant but comfortable, inviting but practical. A place to relax, show off a bit of style — without going over the top.
We started with a design chat to explore the space. Key client wishes included:
A sophisticated colour palette
Warm lighting and texture
A feature wall that made a statement
A cohesive look that still felt relaxed
Here’s what we tackled — and why:
We chose soft, earthy tones — taupe, hints of darkness and warm neutrals to bring warmth without making the space feel small. A feature wall behind the sofa created a focal point without overpowering the room.
We arranged the furniture to float in the room, creating a clear path from the door. Enough space was left around both sides of the bed.
We layered luxury cushions and a cosy throw to add comfort and dimension even in a neutral scheme.
A statement ceiling light were softened with layered table lamps. Everything was dimmable to set the mood.
Statement art, a sculptural mirror, and carefully selected accessories brought the scheme to life.
The finished room feels grown up but not stuffy, calm but interesting, stylish yet liveable.
There were sample pots, papers and fabrics galore!
We built in flexibility for any necessary tweaks.
That’s the beauty of bespoke design: it evolves. And the “messy middle” is where the magic happens.
